"Zabriske Point" by Antonioni, 1970

Zabriskie Point (1970, MGM, dir. Michaelangelo Antonioni, R, 110 min) is the name of a spectacular view in Death Valley, CA (I have visited it). This is a film about two 60s kids (Daria Halprin and Mark Frechette, not quite your usual hippies) drawn together in the desert before Mark continues his spectacular rebellion.

The sexual aspect of the film is erotic because of its gradualism, as Mark's body is gradually 'revealed'. I saw this film before my own 'second coming', and was so impressed at the time I saw it a second time in NYC, something I rarely did. Of course, today we have DVD's and video.

Mark also belonged to a commune in real life, and was arrested after participation in an ideology-motivate bank robbery in Massachusetts around 1973. He would die in a weightligting accident in prison at the age of 27.
